Their forces now rallying at Redoubt, Berec had come to the attention of his superiors as more and moer refugees poured in. Berec had a knack for bringing order to them. It was too bad for all the solace and comfort new comers took from his example, he could find no solace himself. For two months he'd been hoping for some word about the fate of Keygan Stormingbyrne. No word came though and most presumed she was dead. Berec simply could'nt accept this, and so in spite of his gradual rise through ranks, he knew no happiness.

During the tenth week word came of a group of escaped wardens trapped in the cave systems twenty miles north of Grandee. Berec made sure he was assigned to be part of the rescue party.
